What's Included in Every Residency
- California standards-based instruction: Each participating classroom receives ONE 60-minute class per week. Schools select 4 classrooms (by grade level or teacher sign-up), with each class serving 15–30 students.
- Expert instruction from a teaching artist holding a California Multiple Subject Teaching Credential with a subject matter authorization in Theater — 20+ years teaching theater to children, 18 years in public and charter education, a BA in Theatre Arts, and an M.Ed. in Multicultural and Bilingual Education.
- Grade-specific curriculum — lessons built for each grade level, each one building on the last, teaching standards-based theater through tableau, pantomime, improv and theater games adapted to different learning styles and developmental stages.
- Stories from every corner of Southern California — Mexican and Central American, African American, Korean, Filipino, Chinese, Japanese, Armenian, Iranian and Tongva — picture books, folk tales and true stories, chosen own-voices first and brought to life through theater. This is also how the program meets Cn11.2, the state standard requiring cross-cultural story comparison at every grade, K–5.
- Celebratory in-school showcase (8-week and 12-week programs).
Prop 28 set aside arts funding for every public and charter school in California. This is what it’s for.
Cost depends on the length of the residency and how many classrooms take part. Tell me what you have in mind and I’ll put a number to it.
Want to see it first? I’ll teach one of your classes a free 30-minute demo lesson — you watch, your students play, and you decide.
